By improving access to the workforce for jobseekers with past convictions we will create a stronger economy and healthier communities.
The Fair Chance Institute
The Fair Chance Institute is committed to creating an economy where people impacted by the justice system have better access to high-quality employment. To realize this vision, we hope to drive change among key audiences in the workforce:
-
Employers are motivated and well prepared to successfully hire people with past justice involvement.
-
Hiring Managers have access to vetted and widely sanctioned tools and research to implement Fair Chance Hiring.
-
Job Seekers experience reduced barriers to reentry and are able to obtain and maintain employment.
Our Priorities
Background Screening
Reform
We are collaborating with researchers and industry leaders to reimagine the background screening process and reduce the number of jobseekers flagged for convictions by filtering for job relevance and time since conviction.
Employer-Led
Ecosystems
We are partnering with local and national business associations and credible messengers to the employer community to provide guidance and support to design and implement Fair Chance talent strategies.
Advisory Group
We are convening leaders across sectors and industries to assess opportunities to build standards and reform practices to encourage employment and mobility for jobseekers with past convictions.
